We went into today’s match with some trepidation, knowing full well losing meant a long journey home empty handed. Although we didn’t come home the winners, the final score of 0-0 was an accomplishment considering we were playing against a team holding firm at the top of the league unbeaten.
With Captain Rick Lee’s new formation, which had seen us come through comfortably last week, we knew we had a chance of securing a third win on the bounce but playing a team as strong as Wootton was not going to be easy.
Attack after attack was repelled at both ends, but with a strong defence playing for both teams it was difficult to find a way through in open play for either side; those that did find their way through to a shot at goal were safely put back out to play or made safe by the keepers. Wootton had a partly young side that showed speed and skill but we had a mass of experience which saw has through to the final score. Everyone played their part in defending each attack and everyone played their part in each counterattack which kept the game alive and flowing.
We may not have gained winning points but a 0-0 draw against the league leaders was a decent result in our book.
