Bracknell Mens 2's (1) Wycombe 3's (3)
The league season started in defeat for Bracknell as they succumbed to a strong Wycombe side at home. With many changes to the team from last year, Bracknell worked hard but ultimately did not have enough quality to regularly test the opposition defence.
Bracknell did start brightly with Sam Miller-Smith holding up the ball well up front but they were soon pushed back as the tone for the game was set. For most of the first half Bracknell were able to repel the waves of Wycombe attacks but ultimately they were breached and Wycombe went into a 1-0 lead at half time.
In the second half the game became more open as Wycombe looked to extend their lead and Bracknell continued to look to hit them on the break. It was Wycombe who scored next, a deflected short corner routine doing for the Bracknell defence. Bracknell did not give up and were given hope when Richard Jones fired in a strike from a short corner. This rallied the home side and they pushed for an equaliser. Unfortunately it was not to be as Wycombe regained their two goal lead as a strike from outside the D deflected off Jones' stick to make it a game of mixed fortunes for him. Wycombe then looked to run away with the game in the last few minutes as Bracknell tired and were only halted by a superb double save from Bracknell 'keeper Tom Withey.
Despite defeat, there were plus points for Bracknell with their new players settling in well and they can look forward to the rest of the league season with optimism.
