Fuzzy Ducks Vs Woking Pirates
By Zoe Yates
The Fuzzy Ducks make the pirates walk the plank..
The Pirate’s opening pass to the Fuzzy Ducks was the perfect way to kick off the friendly mixed game, but little did Woking realise that it was setting a president for the match...
Bracknells attempts at co-ordinating limbs, brains and hockey skills at the same time (after the Christmas Social the night before) resulted in the Pirate’s taking the lead from Matt’s sly goal. Quickly snapping into action, the Ducks waddled their way to the other end of the pitch and netted a perfectly executed first strike on a short corner. Fi Lewis chipped the ball cleanly over a sliding Woking goalie who was running one, to even up the score board. Lots of running; great passes; a few stops for umpire changes; chats with friends on the opposition and some decent hockey saw the end of the first half with a 1-1 draw and an evenly matched game.
As ever, a few not-so-punctual additions to the Ducks gave us all a few minutes’ breather before getting to test out new positions on the pitch. Martyn instantly re-opened the score board for the Fuzzy Ducks with two cracking deflections that flew past the opposition and smashed the backboard. Shortly following, Adam and Robbie assisted the Pirates with their counter attack, and evened up the fight. However that was no match for Danny Ray who glided round the opposition from the half way line and snuck past the keeper to take the Ducks into the lead once more.
Both Patrick and Nikki thought they were onto a winner when they almost guided the ball into the goal, but Toddy’s incredible strength had split it seamlessly into two leaving them with only half a ball in the goal instead! Not to worry though, more superb passes from the Ducks towards Martyn saw him take home a ‘quacktrick!’ Sending the Pirate’s walking down the plank as they were defeated by the Fuzzy Ducks 5.5 – 3.
