Bracknell Fuzzy Ducks Tour - Barbados 2010

After months of anticipation, Bracknell Fuzzy Ducks jetted to Barbados for their inaugural tour.

The first thing to hit them was the heat, and the realisation that they would have to run around in it!

Banks’ International Festival began on the Sunday night with an opening ceremony featuring mens and ladies invitational teams playing the recent Pan American Bronze medal winning national teams. The Fuzzy Ducks had representatives in both. Sam Heaver, Ash Stratton, Lozza Lewis and Gary Steeples in a 3 – 2 defeat for the men. Dash Heaver, Ali Eatwell and Gemma McClean in a 3 – 0 defeat to the ladies.

They started the Fuzzy Ducks campaign the following morning, with a win on grass over The Alls Stars, a local Bajan team, featuring a couple of Bajan nationals from the night before. A fabulous move featuring all 4 of the Heaver family, was soundly put away by the youngest, Max, to ensure the 1 – 0 win.

The following day saw some timetable alterations due to an overnight storm, but no less hot early in the morning or late at night. A 0 - 0 draw against the Combemere school, and a 4 – 0 loss to Do Bad Crew saw the touring team suffer in the heat.

The final days play for Fuzzy Ducks once again had the heat to account for, but put up a good fight against the eventual winners the Rockets. Unfortunately were unable to replicate day one’s performance. All the results put together meant that there was no place for them in the semi finals, and their memorable festival came to an end.

Inbetween all the Fuzzy Ducks games, Dash Heaver Ali Eatwell and Gemma McClean starred 3 times for Big Apple ladies team from New York. Their results were equally mixed with a win v Banks HC, a loss v Deacons HC and a draw v Combermere.

After all the hockey was finished and the team had watched the finals to support some of the friends they had made over the week, they all to a much needed and well earned extended holiday on the island to which they will undoubtedly return in the future, but with maybe some hot weather preparation!!!
