Coming to you this Summer!

The coaching team at SBHC is made up of both volunteer and paid coaches. They are critical in helping the club attract and retain talented players. Looking forward to next season we still have a number of opportunities for coaches to get involved across the adult and junior section either as a lead coach or as a coach looking to assist and learn working by working with the lead coaches.

I myself have found coaching the juniors to be very rewarding over the last 5 years and having attending a number of the training courses England Hockey make available to new and developing coaches I can highly recommend them. Although it does help you don't automatically need to be a hockey player yourself. Anyone who has played team sports and has themselves been coached will find the philosophies and approaches covered familiar. Coaching the juniors in particular requires a lot of focus on fun and borrowing game situations from other sports like football, rugby and netball is a common way to keep the sessions diverse and engaging.

Over the past number of months, England Hockey have been engaging with hundreds of coaches and clubs through Community of Practices, Conference’s, workshops and courses.

A key message coming through has been the need to run more local courses, workshops and conferences. As a result of this demand they have established a number of Regional Coaching Weeks over the summer months to help coaches prepare for the up and coming season.

These Regional Coaching Weeks will host a number of workshops and courses to cover all deliverers of hockey, but more specifically some Regional Conferences.

The Regional Conferences are there to provide a full day of engagement through:

  • Three workshops aligned to the Player, Environment and Game of the Talent Development Framework.
  • Providing a great opportunity for coaches to network

The conferences will be delivered and facilitated by Great Britain Coach Developers including Sarah Kelleher, Demy Dowley, Russell Earnshaw and many more. The attached poster provides a little more information on the conference and a link to book. Book direct before 1st July for an early bird discount.

You can also book the conferences and other coach development opportunities as part of Regional Coaching Weeks at the following link.

Some of these workshops with enough interest could be hosted at SBHC. If you have an interest in these workshops please do let me or any of the section or team captains or managers know. Also, please do go ahead and book courses direct.
