Only a missed penalty stroke away from double figures

The men's 2s 100% record continued with a 9-2 demolition of Abingdon and were only a missed penalty stroke away from double figures.

Well what can we say about this game. A mad scramble for a childminder (thanks Chris) and a last minute withdrawal meant the 2s rocked up to Abingdon confident but with a squad of only 12. Plus it was Mike "Amar" Amor's first game as skipper, standing in for Matt Wakefield who had decided to be best man at a wedding.

With a simple game plan, run lots, and a clear understanding of responsibilities, score / assist / defend, South Berkshire raced into a 2 goal lead through goals from Des Sanders and Paul Kaplanski. A moment of complacency allowed Abingdon to capitalise and grab a goal back. Not to be deterred South Berkshire struck again through Paul Kaplanski rounding of a neat team move. However South Berks defensive woes continued as another lack of concentration allowed Abingdon to pull a goal back and keep within a goal. A slick short corner routine saw a penalty stroke awarded only for coach Sean Hardingham to dribble it into the keeper (don't worry folks I'm not on flick duty any more!). Still the team rallied round and a deflected drag flick by Mike "Amar" Amor restored the 2 goal lead for the half time team talk.

Identifying the requirement of 100% concentration as the key area of improvement, South Berkshire launched themselves into the second half. A quick goal from Dan Ray effectively killed the game off as South Berkshire extended their lead. More goals followed with 2 more from Dan Ray to grab his first Hat-trick of the season with Des Sanders grabbing his second of the game. With South Berkshire nullifying any danger through a more alert and switched on defence (big shout out to Mike Rogers) Abingdon were not able to gain any foot hold into the game. There was time for Paul Kaplanski to join Dan Ray with a hat-trick of his own. A great win with a, dare I say it, perfect second half performance.

It's back home next week against 2nd place Ramgarhia for an early season top of the table clash where we'll be hoping to keep our 100% record.
