Vets Match report March 14th

Only 9 of the regular Vets squad were available today for the visit from the team riding high at the top of the league. so in stepped Mary, Sandra and Jenny from the Ladies to deliver some sterling performances in the defence and midfield. despite great efforts by Jas and Seb in the midfield it was Oxford who set up all the attacks. Phil in goal pulled off some marvellous saves to keep Wokingham on level terms. With George Andy and Graham snuffing out any final shots it was a good twenty minutes before Oxford scored their first. The pressure soon told and the home side turned around at half time being 3 goals down. Second half Oxford changed their tactics and soon put Wokingham under further pressure and moved the ball around well and on a number of occassions scored on the break as Wokingham pressed to attack. Despite the scoreline Wokingham kept pressing and Mary and Sandra combined well on the right to create chances but the ball never quite reached Roly who was always a willing runner but tightly marked by the Oxford defence. In the end Oxford's quality and fitness showed but a game enjoyed by all.
