Hard work and cool heads win the day

This was a deserved and hard fought victory. The entire team from our guest keeper forward were committed and determined to win this game. We kept our shape throughout and some of our movements, especially down the right, were surprisingly good and were played with a lot more pace than normal. Had our skipper not been sunning himself in the Caribbean his chest might have burst with pride as his words of wisdom inculcated into our ageing brains over the first five weeks of the season bore fruit.
We were totally dominant in the first half when Windsor were not at full strength. After much possession and several missed chances we went a goal up through Dave and then that silver fox Roland put two in before half time.
We appeared to be coasting but Windsor strengthened their team considerably at half time and for a few minutes into the half doubts crept into our minds. Could we hold out? But as Windsor picked up the pace so did we and what a close half it was. End to end the ball fizzed. We chased and harried and had as many second half opportunities as they did. We thought we had a fourth goal from a short corner and we couldn’t understand why the umpire ruled it out. Then with ten minutes remaining Windsor scored a cracker from their right winger. None of us were sure that it was intentional but it was a rocket. We didn’t fold. Our defence stood firm. We pressed some more right to the end.
It was such a good team performance that, other than recording the scorers, it doesn’t seem appropriate to mention the 11 individuals who starred.
