Great start to 2017 for the Hornets

Historically a trip to Epsom usually meant an early goal and then a hiding, so when Roland scored the first goal against the run of play we thought nothing had changed. Epsom put together as string of sharp moves but their shooting was off target. Gradually Hornets mid field got to grips with Epsom's key players disrupting their play and setting up sharp counter attacks. Dave once again having a fruitful afternoon causing mayhem on the right. Hopes were raised when Graham thumped in the second from their first short corner only for Epsom to redouble their efforts. But Hornets defence kept discipline to allow route one counter attacks with Mark taking advantage of two one on ones with the keeper to put the score unexpectedly at 4-0 at half time.

Epsom rejigged their formation at half time and continued to create attacking moves that put Hornets under pressure but their luck in front of goal did not improve not helped by some great saves by Phil and a clearance off the line by Kevin. To rub salt in the wound Hornets continued to counter attack well with Seb picking up the fifth goal after a strong run. Despite all the defensive hard work by George, Nigel and the two Pauls, Epsom got their reward for their efforts with two quick goals in succession. Thereafter, Hornets managed to dig deep and keep Epsom at bay for the last 15 minutes for a well deserved win.
