With a bare bones team Bracknell still went into this friendly with a determined start. With a few new faces in the team and some key players missing Bracknell st! ruggled to maintain the composure of last season. Sonning came out strong and secured a goal, exercising a change in rules new to this season in which a ‘own goal’ can be scored from a 1st touch inside the D by the defending team.
Bracknell regained structure and put pressure on the Sonning defence however no goal came to fruition. Sonning maintained possession and despite the experienced defensive play from Libby Mound, Marcia Clapson, Toddy Eatwell and Katie Oliver a short corner was won and with a good set play from Sonning a 2nd goal was scored.
Half time saw Sally Smith gather the team together, and sending them back out set for a better 2nd half.
Bracknell’s first goal came from a skilful 1-2 from Yellie Powley and Caroline Apsey who played the ball into the D for capitan Becky Coveney to chip it over the keeper with a reverse stick.
Bracknell kept momentum and pressure, causing errors in Sonning defence. Caroline Apsey utilised on the mistakes which resulted in a 1 on 1 with the Sonn! ing keeper, Caroline saw the ball round the keeper and into the goal. Concluding the game at 2-2.
