With the Bracknell team pushing forward, space appeared in the centre of the pitch. This was exploited by the Aylesbury Captain, who picked up the ball and attacked the D at pace creating a 2 v 1 against the Bracknell keeper and scored the first goal of the game. Bracknell ladies were undeterred and had many opportunities in the opposition D but unfortunately were unable to convert these chances. The game was more evenly matched for the remainder of the half.
Bracknell ladies wanted the win and came out fighting after half time. At times they played the best hockey they have all season, their movement on and off the ball was intelligent and balls were passed with pace and accuracy. Kath Coveney was given room in the centre of the field to dictate the game and the wingers offered an attacking threat. Man of the match Yellie Powley brought the game level from a straight strike from a short corner early in the half. However, the opposition continued to push forward and were a constant threat on the break and scored another 2 goals that even stand in keeper Katie Oliver couldn’t stop with her matrix style moves. Even at 3-1 Bracknell played with belief and piled continual pressure on their oppositions D, winning numerous short corners which were defended well by a resilient Aylesbury defence. With time ticking they needed a breakthrough. This came in the form of a magnificent reverse stick aerial goal by Yellie Powley converted from a short corner, just what they needed. Bracknell were awarded a short corner in the dying seconds of the game and when Bracknell Ladies 1st youngest player, Chole Shah was fouled in the D and the umpire awarded another short corner. This was put into the back of the net by hat-trick hero Yellie Powley after a goal mouth scramble. Final score = 3-3 earning the Bracknell ladies a well deserved point.
