Bracknell Ladies 1’s vs Staines Ladies 3s :
With the close of 12/13 season Bracknell ladies had a core players few hang up their hockey boots or leave for University so during the summer months they have worked hard to rebuild the team in preparation for the new season ahead. This pre-season effort could be seen in the performance against Staines.
Bracknell ladies got off to a dominate start commanded by new Captain Kelly Hancock and vice captain Katie Bailey. Caroline Apsey got the first goal for Bracknell when the Staines keeper logged and the ball was taken coolly round and struck into the back of the net. Staines responded with a well rehearsed short corner making the goal line 1-1.
Bracknells defense regained composure and pushed the ball up through the midfield with some excellent play from newcomer Laura Mawhinney and returning Bracknell Bat Holly Bentley. Kelly Hancock and Liz Goodey continued to put the Staines goalkeeper under pressure before Laura Mawhinney scored a perfect reverse stick strike into the Staines top corner.
The pressure remained in Staines half and with some miss timed defending from staines a penalty flick was awarded to Bracknell. Newcomer Laura Mawhinney stepped up to the challenge but the shot was saved from going into the top corner by super save from the Staines keeper.
Luck was reversed when it was Bracknells turn to miss time their defensive play and Staines got 2 quick goals before half time making it 3-2.
Bracknell was pulled back into shape by their new coaches Mike Gray and Martyn Palmer and who are great additions to the ladies section.
The second half Bracknell dominated and Liz Goodey quickly converted the 3rd Bracknell goal. The possession remained with Bracknell and on the brink of full time Holly Bentley was back to her scoring ways when she slotted in Bracknells 4th goal following a cross into the D by Caroline Apsey. The whistle blew for fulltime and Bracknell was triumphant.
