Good communication in defence between Kath Coveney, Marcia Clapson, Jen Sawyer, Gemma McLean and Alison Eatwell prevented the opposition from scoring early in the game by making life difficult for the Wallingford attackers. However after a period of sustained attack, a small lapse of concentration in defence and quick thinking by Wallingford had the ball in the attacking D and slipped into the goal. Unphased by going 1-0 down Bracknell changed tactics and by utilising a 3/4 press, Bracknell stole posession of the ball and drove hard towards the oppositions goal. The surprise attack culminated in a determined shot from Helen Carter, which levelled the score.
In the second half, Bracknell focussed on taking the game into their own hands and were determined to score again. Creative play from Yellie Powley and Alice Randall (MoM) down the right wing kept the oppostion on their toes. Despite Bracknells best efforts, an unfortunate clip of a Bracknell stick and a questionable refereeing decision allowed Wallingford to score their second goal and take all 3 points. Bracknell put in a gritty performance against the league leaders and must have given them food for thought for their next encounter in the replay of a pre -Xmas postponed game, in 2 weeks time.
