After winning last week against Amersham, Bracknell’s confidence was growing, with their move up the Trysports Premier table in to fourth position. Facing Sonning 2’s who were below them in the table, they knew it would be a tough battle, where everyone needed to play well. Bracknell went in to half time, losing 1-0 after an average first half performance. In the second half Bracknell’s standard of play improved with Yellie Powley leading the attack by showing fantastic committment, this resulted in the team pushing Sonning on to the back foot, gaining a short corner which was struck just wide of the post. This was followed by numerous other near misses which went just wide or were cleared from danger by the Sonning keeper and her defence. The goal mouth had taken on a charmed life and could not be breached. However as the second half went on and Bracknell committed further to equalling the score, Sonning scored two further goals, from quick counter attacks taking advantage of Bracknell overloading their attack and an unfortunate injury to key midfielder Kath Coveney. The game ended in a 3-0 defeat, and although morale amongst the team after the final whistle was low, Bracknell will bounce back for their game against Milton Keynes 1’s next week end.
