Knowing the opposition, Oxford Hawks, are top of the league, Bracknell Ladies II’s automatically took to a defensive structure and settled into the first half of the game with high spirits. Some well rehearsed passing between Maya Mahal, Becca Yeomans and Libby Mounds saw the ball out of the defensive area and pushing forwards up the pitch. However with every attack from Bracknell Ladies II’s, came numerous counter attacks by Oxford Hawks who tallied up four short corners in the first 15minutes. New players in the team embedded themselves into the game brilliantly and superb defending saw a clean score sheet until the last few minutes of the first half where one hit the backboard.
As the second half unfurled, Bracknell Ladies II’s dominated the play and got awarded a short corner. A perfectly deflected reverse flick from Maria Russo stunned the opposition into conceding a goal and evening up the playing field. Buzzing, Bracknell Ladies II’s continued to attack the game but fitness and a slight waver in structure saw the opposition squeeze through and take the lead again. Jane Theodolou maintained her composure as she sent cracking balls across to Jo Stringer who worked hard to generate space in the middle of the pitch. As the game continued everyone worked constantly to keep Oxford Hawks score sheet low but another two snuck past to take the final result to BHC 1 – OH 4.
Maya Mahal was awarded Star of the Game this week for her ability to read the game, get into the correct position and making fantastic passes. However Lisa Cameron received Wally for playing a midfielder role when she was supposed to be the goal hanging forward! Oops!
