BHC 0 - 3 Abingdon 25/10/2014

Huge congratulations to the Newly Weds!

Despite having no subs due to a hockey wedding day and many players with illnesses and injuries, Bracknell Ladies II’s started at full pace against Abingdon. The ball instantly made it into the attacking D but shots on goal wouldn't quite touch the backboard.

Perseverance from the team enabled Bracknell Ladies II’s to maintain possession and continue to attack. Short, sharp passes between Steph Newton and Lindsey....???? saw the ball move effortlessly up the pitch and sideline balls enter the attacking D. Nevertheless the opposition’s counter attacks were unbelievably paced sprints that Phoebe Schofield and Nikki Johnson had the pleasure of trying to divert. After the first goal was conceded from a ball that looked as if it would go off the backline, Bracknell Ladies II’s defense picked up the pace to apply even more pressure as these players approached; holding off a larger goal difference before half time.

Predominantly, the play was in the attacking half for Bracknell Ladies II’s throughout the second half, although two more goals were conceded; one from a defensive short corner and the other from a questionable 2:1 attack including goal keeper, Jo Cook.

Lindsey....???? worked relentlessly as centre midfield to play ball after ball into the attacking D however the opposition stopped almost everything in their pathway. The few that crept past them were narrowly missed by Bracknell Ladies II’s forwards who were carefully positioned on the p-spot and far post. Determination until the bitter end of the match saw a sour defeat that by no means reflected the effort, willpower or the amount of possession Bracknell Ladies II’s had throughout the entire match.

This week saw Jane and her lack of 'essential, personal' kit earn Wally. Then Lindsey was awarded star for her work rate after a three way tie with Maya and Nikki.

No game 1/11/2014

After a tough few weeks on the hockey pitch, Bracknell Ladies II's have outperformed themselves today, finding they have nothing hockey-related to do during their week off!!

'Ladies that lunge'

Bracknell Ladies II's started well holding their structure and playing as a team unit. However, as they settled into the game, a few through balls unnerved the team; quickly influencing their decision making and forcing them to fall into the trap of playing the oppositions game rather than their own. Consequently, a goal was conceded from a deflection that could have resulted in a Wally award.

Heads held high, Bracknell Ladies II's fought hard to gain possession of the ball again and move forward in an attacking manner. Janine Moorby-Lewis and Kayleigh Penfold-Welsh worked well to double team against the opposition; applying pressure and intercepting the ball on countless occasions.

When the Maidenhead 3A's forwards infiltrated the D, Bracknell Ladies II's strong defense that included Fi Lewis playing sweeper, for a one-off appearance, automatically reacted to lunge forward and sweep the ball out of the area and retain a low score sheet.

After the half-time team talk Bracknell Ladies II's were focused again and it looked like a completely different team stepping back onto the pitch. Some long passes from Jane Theodoulou reached the forwards, who put immeasurable effort into dodging and out-running the opposition whilst getting into the attacking D. Finally this was awarded with two short corners that couldn't quite hit the backboard.

As the second half of the match progressed, the opposition started to gain access to Bracknell Ladies II's defensive D too readily, forcing Jo Cook to test our her reaction and acrobatic skills as she tried to cover every section of the goal which inevitably lead to a few balls slipping past. Although the final result wasn't as positive as initially hoped, the amount of spectators who attended to support, made up for the match result.

Jo was awarded Star of the Game for her acrobatics whereas Becca's hospital pass and upcoming holiday gained her Wally of the week.
