Bracknell utilised the short warm up time of 5 minutes well and started positively. Despite being a player down, Bracknell made some promising breaks down the wings, putting pressure on Oxford’s defence. However, it wasn’t long before Oxford stepped it up and produced some excellent attacking play, pushing Bracknell into their own area. Bracknell’s defence withstood numerous advances by Oxford, but eventually Oxford succeeded in finding the back of the goal, hammering the ball in from just inside the D. Their second goal came just a few minutes later, following two deflections. Bracknell didn’t let their heads drop and continued to press, with Rachel Whittle and Darcy Kaye making some impressive runs into the Oxford half. However, just a minute before half time, Oxford scored their third goal of the match. Both teams started the second half confidently, clearly looking for a goal. Some excellent saves from goalkeeper, Marion Shaw, and some great defensive play by Oxford ensured that the second half remained goalless for the first 20 minutes. However, another powerful hit from just within the D by Oxford meant that, with just a few minutes to go, Bracknell found themselves 4-0 down. Bracknell tried to respond, with Helen Goodall dribbling the ball into the Oxford D, but it wasn’t long before Bracknell found themselves having to defend strongly again. With only 2 minutes left of the game, an Oxford hit got deflected and Bracknell found themselves 5-0 down for the second times this season. Again, there were many notable performances, but it was Jo Stringer, with an outstanding turn as sweeper, that received girl of the game.
