The game started off equally, with both teams making attacking advances. However, it wasn’t long before Marlow began to maintain the lions share of possession and pressurised Bracknell’s defence. Marion Shaw, the Bracknell goalkeeper, made some excellent saves to ensure Bracknell didn’t concede early in the game, but one of these saves resulted in her being knocked to the floor and play was stopped for a few minutes. This delay in play allowed Bracknell to regroup and at the restart they responded, with Darcy Kaye and Izzie Brayshaw making incisive forward runs amongst the Marlow defence. Unfortunately the Marlow attack proved too strong and soon after they found the back of the net. The rest of the first half ended with much of the same and Marlow scored a second just minutes before the half-time whistle.
The first ten minutes of the second half saw Bracknell come out strongly and they held a lot of the possession. Rachel Whittle made some excellent forward runs, but Bracknell did not capitalise on this nor the short corner they won. Marlow counter-attacked and Bracknell, who found themselves pushed back into their own half, withstood a barrage of Marlow chances, with Janine Moorby blocking a Marlow shot and clearing it off the back line. Numerous short corners ensued, but a solid Bracknell defence managed to fend off all of Marlow’s attacks, ensuring they didn’t find the third goal they’d been looking for. Joint girls of the game were goalkeeper, Marion , and defender, Janine Moorby.
