A task made even more difficult due to the fact that, as a result of injuries, the team was greatly weakened to only nine players. The odds stacked against the young Bracknell side, they played valiantly, and defended wave after wave of Wycombe attacks . Despite Bracknell maintaining good shape and dominating the ball for the first twenty-five minutes, the inevitable happened and Wycombe broke through the very sturdy defence, scoring their first, only to be denied a second by an inspired reverse stick clearance off the line by Janine Moorby. However, Wycombe snatched another goal just before the break. Into the second half defenders Bev Randall, Courtney Eatock and Rebecca Yeomans who were very much in form, kept Wycombe at bay long enough for Bracknell to pull back a goal, with an outstanding strike by Becky Peatfield. With Bracknell’s heads now lifted, a renewed confidence shone through, and Izzie Brayshaw and Kayleigh Penfold-Welch made some excellent forward runs, stretching Wycombe’s defence. A full team they were not and fatigue began to set in, allowing Wycombe to capitalise on their two extra players, following up with an unstoppable strike from a short corner, putting them back in control. Despite some amazing saves from Bracknell keeper, Marion Shaw, Wycombe scored their final goal, effectively putting the game to bed. Bracknell’s hearts still very much in the game, they grabbed a consolation goal, with an outstanding strike from Lorna Palmer, making sure that Bracknell left the pitch with their heads held up high and very much upbeat about their positive performance under the cosh. Final result 4-2.
