Bracknell Ladies 2's vs Wycombe score 2 - 1

What followed was an exciting and nail-biting match, where Bracknell played, what was undoubtedly, their best game of the season so far.

The game started evenly, with end to end action, but as in previous games, Bracknell soon came to dominate, smashing ball after ball into the Wycombe D. Although Wycombe withstood a lot of pressure from Bracknell, it wasn’t long before Kayleigh Penfold-Welch broke through the Wycombe defence, to score the home side a well-deserved opening goal. Bracknell continued to press, and had several more shots at goal, but it was Wycombe who had the last chance of the half, with a short corner, which they managed to convert, making the half time score 1-1.

Bracknell, determined to build on their positive first half, didn’t allow Wycombe much time on the ball, closing down every threat that came into their half. Joy Westlake and Lorna Palmer both had outstanding games in midfield and pressed the Wycombe defence time and again, winning Bracknell numerous short corners. However, Bracknell were unable to convert any of these and soon Wycombe came back fighting. A ten minute period of pressure from Wycombe forced Bracknell to defend for their lives, but the back four and goalkeeper, Marion Shaw, played solidly to keep Wycombe at bay. With just minutes left of the game, it looked like it might be another draw for Bracknell, but an inspired shot from captain, Joy Westlake, ensured the home side took away their first three points of the season. An outstanding team performance took the place of an individual girl of the game accolade.
