Ladies 2's draw first friendly of season

With the new hockey season just a few weeks away, and with an influx of new players, Bracknell ladies 2's, along with their new coach, were determined to show what they could do against one of their soon-to-be league opponents Wycombe. The match started pretty evenly, with both teams pressing and looking for an opening goal, only to be denied by excellent goalkeeping at both ends. Despite Bracknell s initial attacking play, the score at the end of the first half remained at 0-0.

Within the first 5 minutes of the second half, Wycombe won a short corner and managed to find the back of the net. This did nothing to dampen Bracknell s spirits and they soon turned it on, ensuring that the ball stayed firmly in Wycombe s half, and it wasn t long before Rachel Whittle capitalised on this pressing play, putting the ball past Wycombe s goalkeeper. Bracknell continued to make some impressive forwards runs, but a solid Wycombe defence meant that the score remained at 1-1. It wasn t until the final minutes of the game that Wycombe made an attacking advance, but an impressive run across the length of the pitch by Joy Westlake ensured that Bracknell didn t concede a goal before the final whistle and lose the game. Overall it was a great team performance and a promising start going in to the new season. JM
