4-1 Win

The league season got underway this weekend against newly promoted Marlow 2's. The weather more like a summer's afternoon than a chilly October one and with base layers cast aside, Bracknell were ready to get their season underway.

Both sides started brightly, Bracknell with the more clear cut chances but unavailable to convert. However midway through the first half Bracknell won a short corner, step up Tony Heaver, a brilliantly executed short corner, a straight strike to their goalie's left hand side hit the back board giving Bracknell the lead.

You would expect nothing less in this fixture, both sides playing good attacking hockey, in an open, physical game. A rare Bracknell defensive error at the back led to a Marlow short corner and they duly converted to bring the sides level at the break.

After the break it was Bracknell who broke the deadlock with Paul Kaplanski setting up Daniel Ray for his first of the season. The more Marlow went for the equaliser the more Bracknell were able to counter and Daniel Ray turned provider to set up Duncan Wiggett to put Bracknell into an unassailable lead.

With minutes remaining Bracknell sneaked a fourth, with Ashley Stratton poaching the ball and putting through Daniel Ray for his second of the game and put Bracknell 4-1 up.

The final whistle blew and the joy was there was to be seen across the Bracknell faces, this was a good indicator to see how things might for fare for us this season. Despite being injury ravaged and losing several players pre season, there is air for cautious optimism, it may not be pretty but if this small squad can stick together & stay fit then who knows. Maybe we'll cause some sides some difficulty this season and put some points on the board along the way.
