An improving Bracknell side braved the gales to pull off another victory in MBBO division 4, this time away against Old Merchant Taylors. A very tight first half saw both teams trade chances, and whilst Bracknell keeper Tom Withey kept OMT at bay, at the other end Tom Scott opened the scoring with a neat shot from a short corner. If the first half was close, the second was far more open, with OMT scoring first to draw level; a fairly soft goal that really should have been a routine save. But Bracknell’s response was swift, as Richard Jones, playing in his occasional forward role, put Bracknell back into the lead. That second goal signalled the start of Bracknell’s domination of the remainder of the match. Dave Scott was supreme in the centre of midfield, and anything son Tom can do, he can do better, as demonstrated by claiming a well deserved goal of his own.
Bracknell’s fourth was poetry in motion as Steve Williams started a fast sweeping move from inside his own 23, passing up to Badley, Badley to Scott, Scott back to Badley, goal. The ball had travelled the length of the pitch with only half a dozen touches, with OMT nowhere near it.
The win all but ensures Bracknell’s place in the division next season; only an incredible turn of events will now see them relegated, and they can play out the rest of the season in relaxed fashion.
