This weekend South Berks 3s made their way up to Oxford to play …. Oxford 4s. This was an important game for the 3s as it was tight in the mid table of the league with South Berks on 12 points and Oxford on 11 points going into today’s game.
It was a ropey start with a flurry of short corners which South Berks handled well and managed to keep the score 0-0. Then it was our turn to put some pressure on and Ryan scored a powerful drag flick off a short which was rifled bottom left. 1-0. Then after having hit the ball quite hard into Oxford players multiple times, Olly got sent off for “taking the man out”? After a scrappy start we started playing how we wanted to and won a penalty flick in the last few seconds of the first half which Mike disguised beautifully and sent the keeper the other way making the score 2-0 to South Berks going into the break.
South Berks continued to play well but unfortunately lost a man for 2 minutes (originally 2 but then ended up being 4 minutes because your Dad apparently can’t suggest to the umpire that the 2 minutes might have passed. Dad says sorry and has promised to keep quiet next game, anyway Thomas' Dad will likely be back to take up the job of chief commentator next week!) as the umpires deemed a seemingly fair tackle to be dangerous. South Berks held on despite being a man down and managed not to concede mainly due to Thomas N in goal who made many incredible saves. We were back to a full team of 11 but after an interesting call from the umpire they managed to get one back which left the score 2-1. The 3s however held on and brought back 3 points. We will have to do better next week as we play Oxford again but this time their 3rd team, hopefully DoD will be just as hard to decide next week because we all had a fantastic game!
Final Score : 2-1
Goals from Ryan and Mike
MoM - Thomas - great performance in goal.
DoD - Alex and Dad - dodgy tackle which led to a card and then Dad made the card 4 minutes rather than 2.
