Well contested tussle

Hornets defence of Anis and Kevin managed to contain Amersham's bright start and early pressing and ensured some good passing out to allow Jas and Graham a semblance of midfield control where some good passing movements exposed the Amersham defence. Half way through the first period hornets had a purple patch with Nigel King and Dave Badger combining down the left to set up two great cross field passes for Mark to thump home two goals in quick succession. Hornets kept up the pressure but stout Amersham defence denied both Roland and Dave Mackinder the opportunities to go further ahead. Slowly Amersham's running put the pressure on Hornets and a series of aerial balls allowed them to press the Hornets goal. Alan, in his first appearance in goal for years, made a series of telling saves from both short corners and open play, until Amersham finally clawed one goal back when a player was free to make a solid shot.
Second half saw Amersham up their running and energy and Hornets spent most of the time breaking up Amersham attacks. Some solid tackles by Dob on the right meant that Amersham were denied an equaliser until near the end of the game when a series of short corners ended with the Hornets defence finally being breached. despite hard running in the second half by Dave badger and Dave Mackinder Hornets were unable to get the winner.
