A penalty stroke confidently put away by Mary King put the home side ahead at Birch Hill after just 2 minutes . Reading came back into the game after the early shock but could not penetrate a solid SB defence. SB held the middle of the pitch and sent their attackers up the flanks causing problems for the Reading defence.Luckily the Reading GK had a great game and kept them in it into the second half.
Early pressure 3 mins into the second half found Sandra Dodington tidying up a rebound to make it 2.0, followed only 8 mins later by a third from Clare Owen. Reading had a few penalty corners but could not convert -then close to the end of the game, a SB foot on the line gave them a penalty stroke. After a great game SB did not want to give up their clean sheet -especially not GK Kate Waters. She faced the Reading stroke taker and saved in the final minutes of the game! Brilliant finish to an enjoyable game.
