Commitment, Composure and Communication! Bracknell ladies put 5 in the back of the net!

Match report

Ladies 1's v Wycombe ladies 2's

Bracknell went in to today's game in the Trysports premier league mid table fight, knowing that this was a must win game to take the pressure off the final game of the season next week and push up to mid table rather than sitting too close to the relegation zone.
The warm up was good and with no snow on the pitch the ladies were ready, however perhaps feeling that pressure, the team conceded in the first ten minutes of the game, but Bracknell ladies always seem to play better when they are coming from behind! This wake up call pushed them to step up a gear and quickly replied with a goal of their own. A well worked ball out of defence, passed from Becky Coveney, up to Yellie Powley in midfield , who dodged passed the opposition placing it onto Kelly Hancock's stick who skimmed past another playing hitting the attacking 25 yard line and gave the ball to Caz Apsey who diverted the defender and slipped it to Alison Eatwell, who took on the keeper and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net! Level pegging.

Bracknell continued to push with some great possesional play around the park moving it around the pitch to find Yellie Powley pick up the ball and slam it into the goal. 2-1 to Bracknell.

Wycombe hit on the counterattack with Bracknell resting briefly on their laurels and with a melee in front of the goal and popped it in the net. 2-2

However, Bracknell were on a roll and undeterred stoked up more pressure bombarding the Wycombe defence and winning a short corner. With some wise words from stand in coach of the day Sean Hardingham, katie Oliver slipped the ball right of the oncoming defence and struck the ball low and hard into the bottom left corner! 3-2
Seconds counting down on the clock for Half time, Bracknell won another short corner as the half time whistle blew and all the team stepped up to the D. A strong pass out by Inga to katie at the top of the D struck the ball to Caz Apsey who cool as a cucumber deflected the ball past the keeper. 4-2 to Bracknell at half time.

Following a calming talk by captain Becky Coveney at half time, Bracknell were expecting a barrage of attack from the Wycombe team and broadened their shoulders and dug deep ready for the onslaught, which never came and so Bracknell continued to attack. With the defence of Libby Mound and Sam Hall squeezing the play and goal keeper Joy Westlake keeping the ball out of the goal, the midfield worked well for each other and kath Coveney, Yellie Powley, and becky Coveney pushed the squeeze up to the forwards with kelly Hancock being unfortunate to miss the goal by a whisper as her ball passed the wrong side of the post. Helen the whippet Goodall's work rate up front was phenomenal, wearing down the defence constantly. Bracknell settled into a confident mood and continued to pass the ball with ease and were rewarded with another short corner. Yellie Powley received the ball from the Inga and struck back towards Inga to slot home for her first goal of the season. 5-2 to Bracknell!
Bracknell continued to push to the end showing great determination and unlucky not to score anymore. Throughout the second half a sea of composure was evident within the whole team and this showed with the calmness in which they played.
This win keeps them safe from relegation and hopefully will push them up to mid table, with one game left of the season.
