Ladies 1s v Oxford Hawks 2's

Bracknell suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Oxford Hawks being beaten
6-2 by the mid table team. After a solid and professional victory last
week, Bracknell went in to the game in a confident fashion hoping to
continue their push for promotion.

Despite missing 2 regulars, Bracknell started the game strongly absorbing
pressure and moving the ball well. This led to a well taken goal by Kelly
Lockyer, who finished off a fine fast break. If Bracknell thought they were
on their way to another victory this was quickly dispelled by Oxford Hawks
who scored almost immediately from the restart, completely shocking
Bracknell. Oxford hawks continued to press and dominate the game although Jenny
Sawyer was luckily in outstanding form in goal for Bracknell to keep the scores level.
Despite this pressure Bracknell found themselves again in the lead when a
quick thinking free hit from Yellie Powley found Gemma McLean at the top
of the D and she coolly slotted the ball past the Oxford Hawks Goal keeper.
Even this did not settle Bracknell and Oxford hawks continued to play some
outstanding hockey belying their mid table position and they soon scored an
equalizer from a well worked short corner.

With the scores level at half time, Bracknell restarted the match only to
find themselves 2 goals down inside the first 10 minutes. A shell shocked
team just could not find one another and Bracknell's normal crisp, accurate
and well drilled passing game did not find its normal flow. A Penalty and
another well worked short corner soon had Oxford Hawks 6-2 up with 15
minutes to go. Some tactical changes were employed and this had the desired
effect and Bracknell edged back into the game beginning to control possession.
However they could not test the oxford Hawks goal keeper and
despite best efforts could not impact the score line.

This was a strange game for Bracknell and one that will go down as a bad
day at the office.
