Four Can Score

It was no easy contest, Oxford were solid in defence and hungry to get their first win of the season to keep them out of the relegation zone. South Berks presented superb link play and patience on the ball to go 1-0 ahead before half time through Laura Mawhinney. Mawhinney received a pinpoint pass from Mary King, eliminated the last defender and slotted the ball past the keepers left foot.

The half time team talk proved significant, encouraging the South Berks Ladies to a dominant second half performance. Yellie Powley-Williams took a free from outside the circle, dribbled straight into the danger zone and smashed the ball between the keepers legs.

Next on the score sheet was the team’s top goal scorer and skipper, Holly Bentley who scored her signature reverse stick shot. As the second half progressed, South Berks found themselves missing a few promising chances. Hard work from the defensive pair of Jo Partridge and Christina Laird, allowed the team to expose the left and right channels. Katie Oliver settled quickly into her new attacking position, scoring the final goal of the game. Oliver scored a rebound shot off the keeper’s pads, after a continual bombardment of the goal.

This Saturday the South Berks Ladies take on local rivals Maidenhead at Cantley Park. 3rd position in the league Maidenhead, stand just 1 point ahead of South Berks Ladies. The team are brimming with confidence and look set to continue their recent run of good form.
