Bracknell stakes were high for a win, having drawn 1 – 1 against Wycombe 4’s last year. However, Wycombe scored early on in the first half, meaning Bracknell had to up their game.
Bracknell soon equalised with a fantastic goal by Joy Westlake. Bracknell’s confidence was lifted, with the team formation and game play much improving after that. Unfortunately, Wycombe secured a quick second goal, making the score 2 – 1 at the end of half time.
Both teams were evenly matched throughout, with a great goal attempt in the second half by co-captain Helen Goodall. However, Wycombe had the upper hand and it was unfortunate that Bracknell conceded another two goals. This meant the final score at the end of full time was 4 – 1 to the away side.
Despite the loss, Bracknell 2’s played strongly and still have the potential to gain those much needed victories to avoid the dreaded relegation zone. Key performances to note include Bev Randall & Jane Theodolou for their much needed support in defence, plus Bonnie Butler & Lorna Palmer for their solid performance in the midfield throughout. Lorna Palmer was unanimously awarded Girl of the Game.
Unlike the other lost matches, Bracknell 2’s were not left disappointed and feel optimistic for their next match against Marlow Ladies 2’s away.
