Saturday’s game proved to be just that. Despite a strong start by Bracknell in terms of maintaining possession, Milton Keynes soon descended upon Bracknell, piling the pressure on their defence. It wasn’t long before Milton Keynes won themselves a short corner, which they duly converted, putting them one goal ahead just 10 minutes into the game. Bracknell responded well and youngster Izzie Brayshaw made a number of excellent attacking runs down the left hand side, unnerving MK and forcing them into some reckless stick tackles. However, despite the umpires stating at the start of the match that this would not be tolerated, many were missed and Bracknell soon succumbed again to MK’s blistering attacks, conceding their second goal of the first half.
Bracknell entered the second half goal hungry and desperate to get something out of the game, however their positive play was overshadowed by the heated disputes occurring between the MK players and the umpires. With certain players frustrated, MK made many substitutions and soon came back fighting putting another 2 goals past the Bracknell stand in keeper Rachel Whittle. Despite a couple of short corners, Bracknell were unable to capitalise on any of their attacking play and the final whistle could not come soon enough. The nature of the game was pretty much summed up when one umpire declared that the final score was 3-1 (the actual score being 4-0). Despite these difficulties there were some excellent individual performances, including that of Rachel Whittle who stepped up to be in goal, but it was Jo Stringer, with her solid play in defence that made her girl of the game.
