Winter has well and truly arrived, bringing the familiar mix of grey skies and persistent drizzle- quite a contrast to the South Berks Ladies teams, who are still far from “settled”! Despite the ever-changing squad, it’s been tough for players to build consistent connections on the pitch, but the L5s continue to work hard and keep us competitive. At the halfway point of the season, we’re comfortably mid-table, though there’s still plenty to aim for in the coming months.
Our away match at Sonning saw us dominate possession in the attacking third, but unfortunately we couldn’t convert that pressure into goals. There were still some standout moments: a brilliant cross from Clare O. flashing across goal, a strong strike from just outside the D by Lauren, and a determined push towards goal from Liz that was well saved.
Across the pitch, the effort level was outstanding. Rachel kept yet another clean sheet with a key save, while our standout players of the day were Clare Owen—whose high-energy performance added to her usual consistency—and Anncey, making her senior debut. She showed impressive maturity, playing with confidence, intelligence, and linking smoothly with the team. A junior with huge potential.
We finished with a point from a 0–0 draw.
