L5s Sleigh Their Final Game Before Christmas ?
The L5s wrapped up the final game before Christmas with a festive 6–1 away win at Harlow Wycombe. A crisp winter day and bright midday sun greeted us, and winning the toss meant we could attack without squinting—always a bonus.
Clare got us off to the perfect start with an early goal, and from there it was wave after wave of South Berks pressure. Numbers flooded the attacking zone, chances were taken, and by half-time we’d raced into a 4–0 lead. Clearly, Thursday night training—and Wendy’s focus on converting chances into goals—paid off.
The second half brought no festive mercy. The intensity stayed high, and while the opposition did manage to slip one past us, we responded instantly with two more to seal a dominant 6–1 victory.
The real highlight was how well the team gelled, attacking as a unit and looking confident throughout. Despite Harlow Wycombe sitting higher in the league, they struggled to contain us—and were particularly unimpressed when they heard we had some B2H players in the mix.
GOG was a tough call, but Helen Wilson took the honours for her composed control and excellent distribution in midfield, keeping our attack ticking.
Wally had strong contenders: Jenny for turning up at the wrong venue, and Brontë for arriving late (and loud)… though she redeemed herself with mini panettones for the team. In the end, Liz claimed the award for stopping play while retrieving a sideline ball as our surprise 12th player.
No individual standouts this week—because everyone was one. A brilliant way to head into the Christmas break.
