Bracknell 2 v West London 1 score 1- 7

It was their first game in MBBO division 4 following promotion last season (their third promotion in a row), and they were given a rude awakening to the rigours of playing in the division. The first half saw West London apply constant pressure to the Bracknell goal, which yielded them four short corners. Three of these were converted into goals. Bracknell’s only response was to attack on the break where possible, making the most of their opponent’s high line, but they produced little up front.

The second half continued in the same vein. While Bracknell were looking for a quick goal to try to get back in the game, it was West London who scored early. At four nil, the game was up and Bracknell knew it. Some shuffling of the line up, indicative that captain Tom Withey still doesn’t know his best line up, did yield some positive results however. Switching Ashley Holden to right back and Oli Greatbatch to right wing give Bracknell some attacking options down the right flank and eventually they got their goal. Adrian Plant finishing off a sweeping move down the right. By that time however, West London had added another three goals to make the final score seven one.

Bracknell can take consolation from the fact that West London only lost two games in the whole of last season, so were never going to be an easy side to face, however there’s no question that Bracknell will have their work cut out this season. It may be some time before they can dish out a beating of their own.
