Match Report: Mediocre, that is, apart from the performances of brothers Tom and Peter Scott up front, without whose dynamism, Bracknell would have struggled. The Scott brothers were superb , providing an exhibition of attacking link up play, dragging the rest of the Bracknell team up into the game by their bootstraps. The Scotts aside, it was clear that Bracknell hadn't played for over a month, and they were made to wait even longer by their delayed opponents who didn't turn up at Birch Hill until well after the allotted push back time. When the game did eventually start, Bracknell's shape in both defence and attack left a lot to be desired, and it needed Peter Scott to open the scoring following generous support play from Tom Scott, to calm the nerves. From that point onwards it didn't really matter that Bracknell's defence and midfield were below par as long as they could get the ball up to the strikers, who took care of the rest. In this way Bracknell eked out a three nil half time lead. Eastcote fought back briefly in the second half, to bring the score to 3-1, then 4-2 following defensive errors from Bracknell's rusty defence, but Bracknell were soon on the front foot as wingers Adrian Plant and Shaun McInnes showed they remembered how to play hockey by adding three goals; a brace for the former and one for the latter. Bracknell's last goal of the game was a peach, as Alex Page won possesion twenty five yards out, kept control of the ball whilst waiting for Peter Scott to make a run to the far post, then cracked a devestating pass into the D for Scott's tap in. The simple tap in made it look easy but you'll rarely see a finer executed goal than that. In the end, a Peter Scott hat trick, and a brace from Tom Scott, in addition to the contribution from Plant and McInnes ensured a comfortable win for Bracknell, but they'll be grateful that this first game back after the Christmas break was not against stronger opposition.
